Custom Fields

Did you know ServiceM8 has Custom Fields. Yes, its true, and its hidden!

The Good

ServiceM8 can be configured to provide Custom Fields which can range in type including:

  • Text
  • Text with Multiple Choice
  • Number
  • Date

These Custom Fields can be available within a Job or a Client record. When they are in both, data found in the Client's record will automatically be applied when creating a new Job for that Client. Example:

  • If a Client's Custom Field for "Gate Code" reads "0022"
  • When creating a new Job for the same client, the "Gate Code" Custom Field on that Job will be automatically populated with "0022".

The Bad

ServiceM8 only supports up to 10 Custom Fields for Jobs &/or Clients Records.

Changes needed to be made to Custom Fields (adding, removing or renaming) can ONLY be done by your Certified ServiceM8 Partner (such as Digital Data Designed), or ServiceM8 Support directly.

Data populated in Custom Fields which are available to Jobs and Clients do not sync, and are only "automatically" populated upon creation. This means that (if you reference our "Door Code" example) while the Door Code from the Client record was populated onto the new Job for that same Client, updates to the Door Code would likely (and naturally) be made on the Job but would not automatically be applied to the Client Record as well. It is obviously important to update the Client Record as well so that the next Job created is populated with the correct Gate Code, and this requires the additional step to update the Client Record manually and in addition to the referenced Job.

  • Why is this? Well, it is actually really important that it does this. Lets say instead of a Gate Code, it is a Claim Adjuster's details. While most times it might a dedicated person, on this specific Job it is not. The Job will initially populate the usual person's details, but when you adjust it for this specific Job, the dedicated person associated at the Client Record level remains the same.

The Ugly (not really)

There is always a catch right! ServiceM8 charges a one time fee of $140 (USD) to add Custom Fields to your account. This can be initiated by your Certified ServiceM8 Partner or ServiceM8 Support directly. See, not so bad!
